Equity, Diversity & Compliance (EDC)

The Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance (EDC) is charged to ensure that the dignity of students, employees and campus visitors is upheld. Equity issues brought to this office may be investigated and resolved among all parties by a variety of means, which include conversations, and/or filing a formal complaint. Reporting may involve a full investigation by an EDC investigator.

Office of Student Conduct

Whether or not you choose to pursue criminal charges, if the assailant is an Appalachian State student, you may file a report through the Office of Student Conduct. A complaint must be made within one hundred eighty (180) days following the date on which an alleged violation occurred. Compelling factors may be considered in extending reporting deadlines. If the assailant is found responsible, sanctions can range from probation to suspension from the university.

Advocates and Support Individuals

Through the disciplinary process you are allowed to be accompanied by up to two support individuals and an attorney/non-attorney advocate. These individuals can be anyone you choose whether family, friends, faculty members, or staff. The North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual assault can also provide you the option of talking with them about the disciplinary process and may provide other services as well. We encourage you to speak with your Student Conduct Counselor to help you decide on who will best fit these roles for you during the discplinary process.
